What is it? |
Redwood National Park is actually a network of national and state parks lining the northwestern coast of California, preserving the world’s tallest trees, as well as some gorgeous prairie and coastal environments! |
What makes it beautiful? |
I love redwoods so much! Their vast height and primordial age, not to mention the way they filter the light on both clear and foggy days, create a magical scene, turning even the tallest visitors into elves and pixies! The tall ferns seem to be hiding secrets, even those as simple as where the nearest banana slug might be. Many of the trees have been hollowed into forts and grottoes by old wildfires and still keep growing despite the damage!
Outside the old-growth forests, you can spot Roosevelt Elk grazing flowered prairies and admire the stark seastacks jutting up from just offshore. Test your luck at finding the famous northern spotted owl or the marbled murrelet, a seabird that nests in trees! Or watch for whales or endangered Stellar’s sea lions from one of the bluffs. No matter what environment you choose to enjoy around Redwood National Park, you’re bound to see something inspiring! |
How can I Help the Helpers? |
HERE’S HOW:
- Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
- Volunteer at Redwood National Park!
- Donate to Redwood National & State Parks!
- Be a responsible visitor! Remember the old adages: Pack out what you pack in! Take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints!
