What is it? |
The ruins of a small Mayan community in the heart of Cancún’s hotel area! |
What makes it historical? |
This small Mayan site arose after the Maya evacuated Chichén Itzá and fled to the coast (around A.D. 1250-1630). A large stone carving in the shape of a royal face was found here, giving this site its name: the Ruins of the King! During the late Postclassic period, it served as a coastal trade hub, royal burial ground, and a place to learn about astronomy! |
How can I Help the Helpers? |
HERE’S HOW:
- Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
- Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
