What is it? |
Chiricahua National Monument preserves the magnificent rhyolite hoodoos in the place that the Apache called “the Land of Standing-Up Rocks!” |
What makes it beautiful? |
The hike up to Inspiration Point is one of those treks that builds as you go along. First, there are pleasant streams and woodlands, and then you come across the first monoliths, ancient and mighty, towering over the trail. They line the canyon like petrified sentinels at the gate of a mighty rock king, then fade back into trees as you climb. Suddenly, as you step out onto the rim of the canyon, you see the grand spectacle, the incredible topography laid out before you! It is clear to see from these carefully eroded remnants of an ancient volcanic blast why the Apache considered this a sacred place! |
