What is it? |
Gyeongbokgung (경복궁) was the first of the Five Grand Palaces of the Joseon Dynasty! |
What makes it historical? |
This grand palace was built in 1395 by King Taejo of the Joseon Dynasty! Guarded by the Gwanghwamun, where daily changing of the guard ceremonies still take place, this huge complex was the seat of the Korean monarchy for almost 200 years! When the Japanese invaded in 1592, they burned it to the ground and set up their own government offices here. Prince Regent Heungseon then restored the palace grounds in 1867, with amazing gardens and a magnificent pavilion for parties on a manmade lake! |
How can I Help the Helpers? |
HERE’S HOW:
- Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
- Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
