What is it? |
Prasat Beng Mealea (ប្រាសាទបឹងមាលា) is a ruined temple to Vishnu in the jungles of Cambodia! |
What makes it beautiful? |
Sadly, the history of Beng Mealea has been swallowed up by the jungle! There are no dates or identifying carvings on the toppled walls here, so one can only guess it was built around the time of Angkor Wat. It is beautiful to observe the interplay of architecture and nature, though! The roots of the trees intertwine the ancient stone blocks, and dappled light streams through the trees, creating secret corners and neat textures! It is also very isolated among the temples of the Angkor region, which exposes visitors to the pure sounds of the jungle! |
