What is it? |
Wat Ratchaburana (วัดราชบูรณะ) is a memorial temple to the slain brothers of King Borommarachathirat II! |
What makes it historical? |
When King Intharacha I died in 1424, his two older sons, Ai Phraya and Yi Phraya, fought each other to the death on the back of elephants! Unfortunately, neither of them made it out alive, but it sure was a stroke of luck for their younger brother, Chao Sam Phraya (later Borommarachathirat II)! He loved his brothers, though, and when they died, he had a large prang erected on the site where they were cremated. |
How can I Help the Helpers? |
HERE’S HOW:
- Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
- Volunteer with the World Heritage Volunteers!
- Donate to UNESCO!
- Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
