The size and scale of the 16 Chacoan great houses are unmatched anywhere else in America! Carefully excavated since the late 1800s, many of these villages emerged from centuries of rubble with many of their original walls intact! What’s spectacular about the great houses of Chaco Canyon is how immersive they are! A visitor can walk through the same hallways as folks living over 800 years ago, get lost in the silence of the ruins, and ponder what sorts of things were talked about in the many deep kivas that characterize the great houses as ceremonial gathering points! |

When should I go? |
The main scenic loop is open daily from 7:00 AM until sunset, except on major holidays, while the visitor center’s hours are from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM! |
