What is it? |
This was the first state capitol of Delaware! |
What makes it historical? |
Constructed over a period of four years, from 1787 until 1791, this Georgian-style state house was the civic hub of both Kent County and the State of Delaware for over two hundred years! All three branches of government, including the two parts of the legislature, crammed into this building all the way until 1933 when the much larger Legislative Hall was finished! Today, it has been lovingly restored to much the way it was in the 19th century, including its full courtroom and geometric staircase! |
How can I Help the Helpers? |
HERE’S HOW:
- Volunteer with the Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs!
- Become a member of Preservation Delaware!
- Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
