What is it? |
The U.S. Capitol is the grand seat of the legislative branch of the United States! |
What makes it historical? |
Built over 33 years from 1793 until 1826, the U.S. Capitol, in its many stages, has been a grand office for both the House of Representatives and the Senate since 1800! Eleven architects lent their knowledge and resources to its construction and refurbishment, and all fifty states have contributed two statues of notable residents to the Statuary Hall! The statue atop all of them is the 19.5-foot statue of Freedom, who faces east from the summit of the Capitol dome, in order that the sun may never set on the face of Freedom! |
How can I Help the Helpers? |
HERE’S HOW:
- Volunteer at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center!
- Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
