What is it? |
The Marfa Lights are mysterious glowing orbs that appear each night over Mitchell Flat! |
What makes it wonderful? |
The first known report of the Marfa Lights dates back to 1883 when Robert Reed Ellison mistook them for Apache campfires on the horizon! Since then, folks have speculated that they could be ghosts or space aliens! It’s never been conclusively proven, but the lights could be a mirage called a Fata Morgana, which is when two layers of air at different temperatures reflect light. They might also be headlights from cars on the freeway nearby. Whatever they really are, they give quite a show to anyone who visits the Marfa area at just the right time! |
