What is it? |
The National Route 66 Museum houses a condensed trip down the Mother Road from Chicago to Los Angeles! |
What makes it wonderful? |
Unlike some museums with a “National” designation, this museum is locally run, but national in its story. It has maps, cars, and artifacts detailing the journey along Route 66 between Illinois and California and discussing how the Mother Road reshaped America, even how it shaped the presentation of Native Americans: showing off streotypes at roadside attractions brought in a lot more tourist money than just living life. Such roadside attractions became a staple of westbound tourism, and many of them are featured in this museum! |
