What is it? |
Il Giardino dell’Iris is a terraced garden of irises, the symbolic flower of Florence! |
What makes it beautiful? |
This is a tranquil hillside garden with terraced walkways running between old olive trees! In between them are multi-colored clusters of irises in blue, white, orange, and purple! There’s even a pond for viewing their reflections!
Since 1954, this garden has hosted an annual, global competition among iris growers and enthusiasts, crowning a champion for their innovations! Last year’s winner was a pink and white variety from Italy called Anima Cara, and this year’s winner was a deep magenta and orange variety from the Czech Republic called Chachar! |
