What is it? |
The Casa Buonarroti is a museum dedicated to the early artwork of Michelangelo Buonarroti! |
What makes it wonderful? |
Michelangelo sure was a perfectionist, so he never intended for his drafts to be made public. Nonetheless, he kept a lot of his early sketches, and after he died, his nephew, Leonardo, recovered over two hundred surviving works! Fifty years after Michelangelo’s passing, Leonardo’s son, Michelangelo the Younger, redecorated their family home and set out to recover even more of his great uncle’s works to house in this museum. The Medici family even returned some of the artwork they had received from Michelangelo!
Today, this museum features two of his most famous early works, Madonna of the Stairs and the Battle of the Centaurs, as well as a rotating collection of his draft papers and sketches! |
