What is it? |
Pensione Pendini is a glamorous hotel in the heart of Florence! |
What makes it historical? |
This hotel was part of a massive renovation project during the late 1800s after Italy unified and Florence became, for a time, its capital! To compete with other European capitals, especially Paris, Florence set to overhauling its architecture, in a phase calld the Risanamento! Here at the Piazza della Repubblica, formerly a Roman camp, this renovation involved tearing down the Jewish ghetto and all the medieval architecture that had been there for centuries, widening the square and installing luxurious buildings like the Pensione Pendini, a palace turned hotel, which opened its doors in 1879! Its archway is the main way to enter the Piazza! |
