What makes it historical? |
In 1932, the Guevara family brought their asthmatic, 4-year old son, Ernestito, to Alta Gracia in the hopes that the mountain air would be good for his lungs! They settled in this little home called Villa Nydia, which had originally been built to house raiload officials in 1911. They stayed here for 11 years before moving to Córdoba proper, where Ernestito would go on to become a doctor!
Here in this museum, there are remnants of Ernestito’s childhood as well as displays on his later life: his two epic motorcycle trips across South America, and his revolutionary leadership in Cuba, Congo, and Bolivia, which resulted from his experiences on those trips! While the original motorcycle broke down and was lost forever in Chile, a replica is on display at the museum to give a sense of just how much history had to pack onto its seat! |
