| What is it? | A plaque at the site of Daniel Boone’s trading post! |
| What makes it historical? | THE PLAQUE SAYS: Daniel Boone, noted scout and Indian fighter, operated trading post here, 1790. He was scout for General Lewis enroute to Point Pleasant, 1774. Named County Lieutenant for Kanawha and served this county in the Virginia Assembly.
OTHER TIDBITS: It’s hard to say how much of Daniel Boone’s story was true and how much was legend! He was one of the most famous hunters and explorers of the post-Revolution period, charged with settling the territory of Kentucky through the Cumberland Gap! One thing that is for sure is that Mr. Boone and his family ran a trading post here in Point Pleasant from 1790 to 1799! As a frontiersman, Mr. Boone saw the ownership of the land change hands many times, and each time, he lost his own land claims, which pushed him further and further west to his final destination: Femme Osage Creek, Missouri! |
