What Is Colorado National Monument?
Colorado National Monument protects the red rock formations, canyons, and native wildlife between Fruita and Grand Junction!
What Makes It Beautiful?
I love red rock, and Colorado National Monument, with both Kayenta and Wingate sandstone, is home to plenty of it! Erosion has carved its canyons into neat shapes, like the Coke Ovens, Independence Monument, and Devil’s Kitchen, with trails that take you down among them! Enjoy the native plants in this constantly changing landscape (I went from sunshine to thunderstorm to sunshine again on my visit), and if you’re lucky, you just might see a majestic herd of desert bighorn sheep!
How Can I #HelpTheHelpers?
- Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
- Volunteer at Colorado National Monument!
- Become a member of the Colorado National Monument Association!
- Be a responsible visitor! Remember the old adages: Pack out what you pack in! Take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints!
