What is it? |
It’s the city hall of Montrose, Colorado! |
What makes it historical? |
This Art Deco and Mission Revival building was built in 1926, 44 years after Montrose was founded! It was the first building in town built to specifically house city offices (plus the library)! The unique, mixed style with red and yellow bricks was a signature of architect, John Hudson Antrobus, who designed many buildings in Montrose, like the nearby Elks Hall! Both buildings were constructed by the firm of William L. White & Homer O. Okey! It’s one of the best examples of how Art Deco style was adapted in the Rocky Mountain states! |
How can I Help the Helpers? |
HERE’S HOW:
- Become a member of the Montrose County Historical Society!
- Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
