What is it? |
This is still the main courthouse of Huerfano County! |
What makes it historical? |
Huerfano County’s seat skipped around a few times before settling in Walsenburg in 1873! Here, with the help of mining and railroad funds, the county hired C.A. Anderson to design a new Richardsonian Romanesque courthouse out of local sandstone. The contracting firm of Friedhoff and Hoeffel assembled it for the sum of $35,000 (over $1,022,149.44 today), and it opened its doors in 1904! |
How can I Help the Helpers? |
HERE’S HOW:
- Volunteer with History Colorado!
- Donate to History Colorado!
- Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
