What Is the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial?
A national memorial to Dwight D. Eisenhower, our 34th president!
What Makes It Beautiful?
The Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial has statues commemorating his early years in Abilene, Texas, his rise to supreme commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force during World War II, and his two presidential terms from 1952 until 1960! These statues are intermixed with presidential quotes and backed by a stainless steel tapestry, depicting the Pointe du Hoc promontory of Normandy!
President Eisenhower is remembered for signing the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956, Civil Rights Act of 1957 and the legislation to create what we now call NASA! He also enforced the Brown vs. Board ruling by the Supreme Court, raised the minimum wage, and set up the Departments of Health, Education, and Welfare!
