What Is Colonial National Historical Park?
This four-unit park preserves the beginning and end of British colonialism in North America!
What Makes It Historical?
Virginia really was the birthplace of what’s now the United States of America, and it’s amazing how the birth and demise of British rule in the Americas happened so close together! Colonial National Historical Park preserves the site of Jamestowne, the first permanent English settlement in the Americas, plus the Yorktown Battlefield, where the American army defeated the British!
There are two other units here too, the Cape Henry Memorial where the British colonists first came ashore in 1607, and Green Spring, where colonial governors lived. One of them, Sir William Berkeley, was the antagonist in Bacon’s Rebellion, a precursor to the Revolution!
