Dana-Thomas House

What Is the Dana-Thomas House?

This is a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home in Springfield, Illinois!

What Makes It Historical?

Socialite, traveler, and crusader for womens’ and African-American rights, Susan Lawrence Dana-Thomas commissioned Frank Lloyd Wright to remodel her late father’s home in 1902. It was his 72nd building but his first “blank check” commission! With 35 rooms covering 12,000 square feet, this Prairie-style house boasts 100 pieces of Mr. Wright’s custom furniture and 250 original works of art glass! Upon completion, Mrs. Dana-Thomas used her home for parties, political activism, and philosophical gatherings!
