What Is the Pennsylvania State Capitol?
It’s the Pennsylvania State Capitol building!
What Makes It Historical?
Designed by Joseph M. Huston and built between 1902 and 1906, this Renaissance style capitol building is a blend of artistic ideas from the Italian House Chamber to the French Senate Chamber to the English Governor’s Reception Room! While many of its features are European-inspired, like its 52 million-pound dome modeled after St. Peter’s Basilica, the building is constructed from Vermont granite and scattered with motifs of Pennsylvania’s history and achievements! At its dedication on October 4, 1906, President Roosevelt declared it “the handsomest building I ever saw!”
