Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park!

Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park

What Is Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park?

Formerly Saint-Gaudens National Historical Site, this park protects and interprets the former estate of famed American sculptor, Augustus Saint-Gaudens!

What Makes It Beautiful?

The community of Cornish, New Hampshire is super peaceful in the summertime with dense woods and greenery everywhere! It was the perfect place to find artistic inspiration, which is what brought Augustus Saint-Gaudens and his family to check out this Cornish Colony in 1885. Here, the Irish-born artist set up his home base, called Aspet, and two studios where he and his team would craft sculptures of American figures with Classical Greco-Roman inspiration, surrounded by gardens galore! Some of these bronzes, like the Standing Lincoln and Admiral Farragut are still on display here on the grounds!

Today, Aspet’s been well preserved with both the authentic home and Little Studio from Mr. Saint-Gaudens’ time, but also new additions, like the serene Atrium and New Gallery, home to rotating expeditions of modern artists! There’s a Sculpture in Residence program, workshops, and musical events hosted here in the summer time, keeping the art alive and growing, generation after generation!
