What Is the OZ Museum?
The OZ Museum houses the world’s largest permanent collection of Wizard of Oz artifacts!
What Makes It Wonderful?
Since L. Frank Baum, a former fancy chicken breeder, published The Wonderful Wizard of OZ in 1900, his whimsical tales have captured the imagination of children around the world! The groundbreaking 1939 movie adaptation of it, starring Judy Garland, continues to be the most watched movie of all time! To do OZ justice in Dorothy’s state of Kansas, collector, Todd Machin, opened this museum in 2003, though most of his collection was only on loan for 5 years! That’s when a Franciscan monk named Johnpaul Cafiero (of all folks) stepped in with his own collection, and today, the OZ Museum showcases thousands of books, scripts, toys, and props from the movie, along with history facts about the author, the books, and the movie actors! It’s a great place to take a trip down memory lane, or the Yellow Brick Road, though that’s across the street!
How Can I #HelpTheHelpers?
- Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
- Become a member of the OZ Museum!
- Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
