What Is the Federal Office Building?
This is a Residence Inn built into a historic Stripped Classical/Art Deco building!
What Makes It Historical?
The Federal Office Building, also known as the Old Federal Building was constructed in the 1930s as part of President Roosevelt’s New Deal program to jumpstart the economy! Its design was a collaboration between local architects, James Wetmore and George Prinz, and the architectural firm of Kimball, Steele, & Sandham. Their final product was built in Stripped Classical style (like Classical but simplified) with Art Deco elements like its ziggurat-shaped upper levels! From 1933 until 2008, this building was home to various federal agencies, including the US Weather Bureau, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and the Department of Agriculture!
