Grenville M. Dodge House!

Grenville M. Dodge House

What Is the Grenville M. Dodge House?

This was the home of railroad pioneer, Grenville Dodge, from 1869 until 1916!

What Makes It Historical?

Grenville Dodge made a name for himself as an engineer in the Union Army, converting Confederate rails into Union suppliers, which cut off the Confederacy and fueled General Sherman’s march to the sea! He fought in the battles of Pea Ridge and Atlanta, and he created a network of spies called the Corps of Scouts, which pioneered US military intelligence!

After completing his service as a Major General, Mr. Dodge began a three-year career as chief engineer of the Union Pacific Railroad, overseeing the stretch of the Transcontinental Railroad between Omaha, Nebraska and Promontory Point, Utah! A serious multitasker, Mr. Dodge took charge of the Union Pacific, ran a successful campaign for Congress, and had this Second Empire style home constructed by William W. Boyington, all in 1866!
