Haleakalā National Park!

Haleakalā National Park

What Is Haleakalā National Park?

This park protects the amazing ecosystems inside and on the outer slopes of Haleakalaā crater!

What Makes It Beautiful?

If ever there were a national park to meet all the colors of the rainbow, it would be Haleakalā! The park stretches from the blue waters of the Kīpahulu District up through lush green rainforests, where red and yellow honeycreepers flit between flowers of all colors and ferns that shift from red to green! Within the crater, the volcanic minerals make the ground shift from yellow to orange to red, not leaving out the black lava rocks, silver-white silverswords, and many shades of soil!

If you hike into the crater, prepare for amazing sights, from fern-covered cliffs and the breathtaking vistas between them to the smaller beauties: a wandering nēnē or a bed of plucky ʻae ferns. At Pele’s Paint Pot, the blasted black landscape becomes awash in warm layers of color, all of which is surrounded by a ring of the most tropical green! For having such a hot history, this volcano has become a real haven for life so special that most of it is only found here in all the world!
