Bank Hotel!

Bank Hotel

What is the Bank Hotel?

This is Flagstaff’s oldest standing building!

What Makes Them Historical?

The Bank Hotel got off to a rocky start! Two years into construction, this aspiring bank ran out of funds! Thomas McMillan, Gold Rusher and Australian sheep rancher, bought the half-built shell in 1888 and turned it into his own multipurpose McMillan Building! The first two tenants were a bank and hotel, which give the building its current name, but it also ended up housing a stop for the Flagstaff-Grand Canyon Stagecoach line, as well as the McMillan Opera House! In addition to establishing the Bank Hotel, Mr. McMillan was also first chairman of the Coconino County Board of Supervisors, first Postmaster, and a member of the first library board!

How Can I #HelpTheHelpers?

  • Volunteer with the Northern Arizona Pioneers’ Historical Society!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
