What Is Zilker Botanical Garden?
This 29-acre botanical garden overlooking downtown Austin is considered that city’s crown jewel!
What Makes It Beautiful?
Zilker Botanical Garden spans many levels of lovely, from the immensely photogenic Mabel Davis Rose Garden to its cool Riparian Streambed, featuring hundreds of native plants that grow along Texas waterways! Ancient plants are on display in the Hartman Prehistoric Garden, alongside a full-sized ornithomimus statue! Oh, and the jewel of the Jewel of Austin is definitely the Isamu Taniguchi Japanese Garden, built by 70-year old Isamu Taniguchi in 1969! Mr Taniguchi had abandoned California, where he’d been in an internment camp, and retired to Austin, spending 18 months creating this three-acre Japanese garden overlooking the skyline, featuring ponds that spelled out “Austin!”
