Roosevelt Campobello International Park

What Is Roosevelt Campobello International Park?

This is a park jointly run by the US and Canada, preserving the wilderness of Campobello Island and the cottages of 20th Century “rusticators” like Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt!

What Makes It Beautiful?

This unique island park has operated under the spirit of friendship and collaboration between the US and Canada since August 20, 1964! It’s a showcase of American historic sites on Canadian soil, dating back to the late 1880s when wealthy New Englanders bought up land on Campobello Island to use as a summer retreat! Here, FDR learned to sail and taught those skills to his kids, and here, Eleanor stayed with their family for many a summer during her husband’s presidency! Today, the park showcases the unique and ornate architecture of the huge “cottages” that made up this rusticator community! See, hear, and (by attending Eleanor’s Tea) taste the history!

Of course, all of this is set amid the thick pine forests of Campobello Island, overlooking pristine waters and secluded beaches! Enjoy the mirror-clear waters on the Lubec Narrows side (but watch out for jellyfish), or explore the rocky tidepools of the Atlantic side! Picnic atop the bluffs overlooking the ocean, or head on down and take a dip. These are the beaches that attracted a veritable who’s-who of New England socialites, and now it’s open to you too!
