North Cascades National Park!

North Cascades National Park

What Is North Cascades National Park?

This national park preserves and protects the mountain, waterways, and glacial landscapes of the northern Cascades range!

What Makes It Beautiful?

The North Cascades form a park whose beauty reveals itself gradually. From Highway 20, you’ll see the mountains on either side of the road, but you’ll still just be looking at them from inside Ross Lake National Recreation Area, which has beauty of its own! No, you’ll have to hike a bit to appreciate North Cascades National Park, as the mossy forest clears to reveal deep valleys and craggy peaks stretching off into the distance! Listen for pikas while you munch on wild huckleberries galore, or seek out one of the park’s many hidden alpine lakes! You’ll want to get yourself a permit as early as you can, because spaces as magical as these fill up fast!

When Should I Visit the Park?

The park is open year-round, but summer is prime berry-picking season and fall is legendary for its larch leaves! If you’re planning on scoring backcountry permits, you’ll want to stop by the Wilderness Information Center in person as close to their 7:00 AM opening time as possible, or at least before they close at 4:00 PM!
