Camp Curtis!

Camp Curtis
Landmark #215 Humboldt County Visited: May 10, 2012 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? A plaque on the site of Camp Curtis!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: Camp Curtis was the headquarters of the Mountain Battalion from 1862 to 1865. There were many military posts established throughout this area for the protection of the white settlers. (Army spells Curtis with one s.)

OTHER TIDBITS: Specifically, this was Company B of the Mountain Battalion of California Volunteers, brought in to provide military support against the native Yurok people! By 1865, they had set up the last reservation in the area, ending a 15-year conflict between the natives and white settlers!
