What makes it wonderful? |
This spot brings to life the famous song lyrics by the Eagles: “Well, I’m a-standin’ on a corner in Winslow, Arizona / Such a fine sight to see / It’s a girl, my Lord, in a flat-bed Ford / Slowin’ down to take a look at me.”
It’s a little bit kitschy and surrounded by paraphernalia shops, but what this little park has done since its dedication on September 10 and 11, 1999, is to save the town of Winslow, which was floundering after I-40 completely bypassed the town in the 1970s! When I visited, there were dozens of people coming and going, snapping photos, visiting shops, and eating at restaurants. Who knew what four lines in a song could do for a struggling desert city?! |
