Site of Louis Rubidoux House!

Site of Louis Rubidoux House
Landmark #102 Riverside County Visited: August 1, 2012 Plaque?  NO. 🙁
What is it? Nothing but a Stater Bros. parking lot!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: In 1844 Louis Rubidoux arrived in California with his family and, shortly thereafter, purchased the Jurupa Rancho. He became one of the most prosperous stock raisers in Southern California, and also planted orchards and vineyards, raised grain, built the first grist mill in the area, and operated a winery.

OTHER TIDBITS: Son of the man who outfitted Lewis and Clark’s expedition from St. Louis, Mr. Rubidoux came to California (it’s rumored) after winning a lot of money in a card game in Santa Fe! He is buried at another historical landmark, Agua Mansa Cemetery!

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Become a member of the Riverside Historical Society!
  • Become a member of E Clampus Vitus, Billy Holcomb Chapter!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
