Glennville Adobe!

Glennville Adobe
Landmark #495 Kern County Visited: January 21, 2013 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? The Glennville Adobe still stands!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: This is Kern County’s oldest residence, built before the Civil War by Thomas Fitzgerald as a trading post at the junction of two Indian trails. The present Greenhorn Road follows the east-west trail (later the McFarland Toll Road) to the Kern River mining districts. The town was named in 1857 after James Madison Glenn, an early settler.

OTHER TIDBITS: That pretty well sums it up!

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Become a member of the Kern County Historical Society!
  • Donate to the Native Daughters of the Golden West!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
