What makes it historical? | THE GUIDE SAYS: Just south of this point stood the Kern River Slough Station on the Butterfield Overland Stage route. Operating through present Kern County during 1858-1861, this famous line ran from St. Louis, Missouri to San Francisco until the outbreak of the Civil War.
OTHER TIDBITS: The Kern River slough was a stream running south from Bakersfield to Kern Lake near Arvin! Both Kern Lake and the slough have dried up because farmers have diverted all of the water! |
