Window Rock is a huge sandstone arch which looks like the eye of an ancient dragon skull! |
| What makes it historical? |
Since time immemorial, the Diné, or Navajo, have come to this arch to collect rainwater for use in their Water Way Ceremonies! They call it Tségháhoodzání, or the “Perforated Rock,” and it is one of only four places where medicine men were able to gather ceremonial water! The community that grew up around it became capital of the Navajo Nation in 1936! This is where the tribal leaders, in a three-branch government, meet to discuss the issues of this sovereign tribal nation! |
