Well hello there, everyone!
The clock is tick-docking on our ship’s final docking! We pulled into Victoria, capital of British Columbia at 6:00 PM to fit in as much of this beautiful city as we could in the two hours before sunset! There were pricey tours aplenty, but at this point, both Jackie and myself were overspent. We decided to hike into town, find some tea, and see what else there was to see!
We wandered through Fisherman’s Wharf before pausing in front of the 1897 Pendray Tea House, which offered a scrumptious looking high tea that would really have hit the spot on a cloudy evening like this one. But, lovely though it was, we figured we could get more for $54 down the road. We continued our trek.

Of course, what visit to Victoria would be complete without taking a look at the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia? This amazing building, designed by Francis Rattenbury, has been the seat of provincial government since 1898! Here, we ran into our friends, the Chase family, who had been rained out of the glacier trek with us! They were questing for gelato, which seemed like a pretty good idea to me!

First, though, we had to take a peek at one of Francis Rattenbury’s other iconic designs: the Empress Hotel! Originally meant to be a terminus hotel for the Canadian Pacific steamship line, this magnificent hotel now serves tea to folks of all backgrounds, as it has nonstop since 1908!

But alas! We couldn’t find where or if they were serving tea when we visited, so we settled on gelato from Victoria Ice Cream & Fudge Factory instead. The sun sure did set quickly, but at night, the streets of Victoria were still very much alive with street musicians, shoppers, and lights! So many lights! Had it not been so crowded, I would have taken more photos of the strands of lights lining the light posts and outlining the Parliament building! Victoria is a magical city, and I felt kind of cheated out of the full experience by the time limitations. Oh well, back to the ship and the U.S. of A!
