What makes it wonderful? |
Muppet creator, Jim Henson, grew up here along the banks of Deer Creek, where he encountered all kinds of wild animals that he would eventually bring to life through puppetry. Chief among them was Kermit the Frog, who some say was named for his childhood friend, Kermit Scott, but might have also been named for Kermit Cohen, the sound engineer at WBAL-TV, where the famous frog debuted in 1955 on the show Sam and Friends!
Since then, Mr. The Frog has starred in 12 silver screen movies and 25 television movies and shows, like Sesame Street! He’s got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a statue at Henson Studios, not far from where I live!
This museum itself has an original Kermit puppet and an exhibit featuring Muppet paraphernalia and a lot of information about Jim Henson himself. It’s well worth a stop if you’re in northwest Mississippi! |
