What is it? |
It’s the Kentucky State Capitol building! |
What makes it historical? |
Though Kentucky became a state in 1797, the final capitol building wasn’t completed until 1910! That’s because the cities of Frankfort, Lexington, and Louisville fought each other ferociously for the title of capital! In that spirit, their new Frankfort capitol made use of $1 million in federal reparations for damages sustained during the Civil War and was built entirely by hand and horse. Frank Mills Andrews was the architect, and he incorporated his love of Beaux-Arts and French interiors into the design. |
How can I Help the Helpers? |
