Plaque Text for this Alabama landmark:
Edgar Cayce (1877-1945), was internationally accepted as an extremely gifted psychic. An humble man, he never profited materially from his psychic ability, but used it to help “make manifest the love of God and man.” Operated his photography studio and lived in this building from 1912 until 1923. Many psychic readings were given here during that time.
More about The Sleeping Prophet:
Born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky in 1877, young Edgar Cayce was reported to have conversations with his deceased grandfather and memorize books by sleeping on them! He started to give readings in 1901 after recovering from paralyzed vocal cords under hypnosis! His nickname, “The Sleeping Prophet” came about because he would make his predictions while lying on his back with his eyes closed!
Over the course of his lifetime, Mr. Cayce gave more than 14,000 readings, ranging from medical diagnoses, to statements about Atlantis, to predictions like the stock market crash of 1929! Though his gifts are still debated, he helped pave the way for the New Age movement, blending Christian and Hindu spirituality, and alternative medicine! His foundation, the Association for Research and Enlightenment, is still active today!
