Washington County Courthouse

What Is the Washington County Courthouse?

The Washington County Courthouse is part of the Nationally Registered Montpelier Historic District!

What Makes It Historical?

Designed by B.F. Walker, this courthouse was originally built in 1844 in the Greek Revival style with a portico of Doric columns! Sadly, a large portion of the upper level went up in flames and was reimagined in 1880 in the Second Empire style (drawing from Napoleon III’s Second French Empire)! This time, it had fireproof metal sheathing and cornices, plus this new tower with a bell and clock!
