Laurium Manor

What Is Laurium Manor?

Today, the former home of Thomas and Cornelia Hoatson is the Laurium Manor Inn!

What Makes It Historical?

Thomas Hoatson, Jr. was the son of the Calumet and Hecla Mining Company’s superindentent, which gave him a personal connection to Houghton County, even as his interests stretched across the country. Co-owner of the Calumet & Arizona Mining Company, “Captain Tom” used funds from his many mining, railroad, and banking companies, to hire architects, Charles and Fred Maass, to build this 45-room, 13,000 square foot mansion for his wife, Cornelia, and their six kids, in 1908!

How Can I #HelpTheHelpers?

  • Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
  • Volunteer at Keweenaw National Historical Park!
  • Spend the night at the Laurium Manor Inn!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
