What Is Gooseberry Falls State Park?
This CCC-constructed state park is considered the gateway to Lake Superior’s north shore!
What Makes It Beautiful?
This park features three lovely waterfalls marking the spot where the Gooseberry River cascades into Lake Superior! The lower two waterfalls splash into big pools that are just perfect for wading and swimming, a great place to beat the heat, if not the crowds! There are plenty of raspberries and thimbleberries growing here too, even though there aren’t any gooseberries. That’s because this place takes its name from Medard Chouart sieur des Groseilliers, a French fur trader whose last name means “Gooseberries!”
