Jasper Park Information Centre

What Is Jasper Park Information Centre?

This is the communication center for Jasper National Park!

What Makes It Historical?

The town of Jasper got its start in 1813 as a supply depot for the North West Company, named for its clerk, Jasper Hawes! One hundred years later, this information center went up in the town that had just changed its name from Fitzhugh to match the six-year old Jasper Forest Park surrounding it! It was positioned to greet visitors disembarking the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway Line across the street, whose arrival in 1911 had expedited the growth of the town. This particular rustic-style building was the design of one Alfred Merigon Calderon, completed in 1913 and one of the first buildings to go up in town. Also serving as the home of the park’s first superintendent, Maynard S. Rogers, this administration building became the template for many more buildings in town, giving Jasper its unique, rustic character!

How Can I #HelpTheHelpers?

  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
