Diamond Head State Monument!

Diamond Head State Monument

What Is Diamond Head State Monument?

This 300,000-year old volcanic crater, also known as Lē‘ahi, is the most iconic landform on O‘ahu, if not all of Hawai‘i!

What Makes It Beautiful?

If you’ve come to Hawai‘i seeking views, then don’t miss out on Diamond Head! All it takes is a 0.8-mile climb up a historic, mostly paved, trail installed in 1908. If you arrive early enough, enjoy the lush grassland and tweeting birds at your own leisurely pace. Sure, there are a few flights of metal stairs to tackle, but if you’re reasonably fit, you are sure to triumph! Once you hit the summit, be rewarded with a view of the entire southern coast of O‘ahu from Ewa Beach to Waikiki to Koko Head! Look out for surfers and, if you’re patient and seasonal enough, whales too!

How Can I #HelpTheHelpers?

  • Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
  • Volunteer with Hawai‘i State Parks!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Remember the old adages: Pack out what you pack in! Take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints!

How Do I Get There?

The road to the visitor center is at approximately:
4192 Diamond Head Rd
Honolulu, HI 96816
(Take Me There!)

When Should I Visit the Park?

The park is open daily from 6:00 AM until 6:00 PM! Visit at ease if you’re a local, but if you’re from off-island, you’ll need to make a reservation first!
