What is it? A plaque base commemorating the founding of Corona!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: R. B. Taylor, George L. Joy, Samuel Merrill, A. S. Garretson, and Adolph Rimpau, after purchasing lands of La Sierra Rancho and El Temescal grant, founded the citrus colony and town of Corona on May 4, 1886.

OTHER TIDBITS: This city is named Corona (“crown” in Spanish) because it is built around the circular Grand Boulevard! Starting in 1913, Corona was the self-proclaimed lemon capital of the world! Lemon growers in Corona shipped more citrus than any other town in California and even started the first Lemon By-Products Exchange company! The most famous events in Corona’s history were the automobile races that started on California Admissions Day, September 9, 1913! This massive race drew 100,000 peope into this town of 4,000!
