Alabama became the 22nd state of the Union on December 14, 1819! It’s named after the Alibamu tribe, but you can also call it the Yellowhammer State! Its capital is Montgomery, and its largest city is Birmingham! Alabama’s state motto is Audemus jura nostra defendere (“We Dare Defend Our Rights”)! This state is famous for its civil rights history, from the 16th Street Baptist Church to the Rosa Parks Museum, Tuskegee University to the National Memorial to Peace and Justice! It’s also known for its music scene, U.S. Space & Rocket Center, and Talladega Superspeedway!
