Tennessee became the 16th state of the Union on June 1, 1796! It’s named after the Cherokee village, Tinasi, but you can also call it The Volunteer State! Its capital and largest city is Nashville! Tennessee’s state motto is “Agriculture and Commerce!” This state is famous for the Great Smoky Mountains, Graceland, Dollywood, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, the Grand Ole Opry, Shiloh National Military Park, and Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage!
